We are planning a camping trip to the beach in the next week or two.  It’s October.  In Pennsylvania, where we are from, camping would be the farthest thing from our minds.  But on the Texas Gulf coast, the weather is turning perfect for hitting the beach.  We are looking forward to cool nights and warm days.  The fall sunshine down here is great – it has that warm, comfortable feel that invites being outdoors.

Summer camping down here – especially in a tent – is considered to be torture by most folks.  Even with a cool Gulf breeze the heat and humidity are rough.  Most people won’t venture out without an air-conditioned  pop-up trailer, at least.  So, Fall camping is fair-weather camping.  The temps moderate.  Humidity should be down.  And we’ll see about the bugs.

I don’t know if we’ll be swimming, although I was fishing in Galveston a few days ago and the water was very comfortable, so it’s not out of the question.  We are definitely fishing.  We’ll do some surf fishing, probably some pier fishing, maybe fish some backwater lagoons in the yaks, and do some crabbing.  Hopefully we’ll catch enough to make at least one meal.  We’re not brave enough yet to commit to eating only what we catch – that would be a definite weight loss program.

Where to go, where to go…most likely our favorite beach near Freeport.  We have been there multiple times and love the wide beaches and remoteness of it.  Usually there are only a few other campers, and many fisherpersons.  It will be interesting to see what it looks like after Harvey.

I’ll report soon on our experience…..
